Mobility
Recently I’ve been talking much about bicycles, and even put some photos up on facebook… So, I’ll do a bit of explanation :)
We live a few km from the river Mosel which is a beautiful place to live, especially for those bike fans, since the region is packed with bicycle paths in all directions. It can be taken for granted - if there’s a river, there sure is a bicycle path alongside it… So, all we have to do is grab the bike and go.
Well, not that simple. There’s a little trick. We live on the top of a hill, although not too high, still steep as hell. So, while getting down to the river bank would be a lot of fun, getting back up would mean unbearable pain and torture. I would probably end up dragging 4 bikes, 2 kids and my wife as well… :)
This summer my cravings for cycling have finally overcome the discouraging factor that I would not only have to buy bicycles (as it is very hard to cycle without bikes) but also all the gear to hook them up on the car to get them down and, more importantly, back up the hill… And I did a bit of research to rediscover the long forgotten folding bikes. Bingo! It folds so small to easily fit in the trunk of my humble-sized Volvo S-40 and still leaves free space for helmets, gloves and a beer…
OK, some of my friends have already made a remark on the unmanly size of the bike (as if size matters), and I agree - it would be much more manly to carry a few mountain-bike several miles up the hill leaving a trace of my manly blood on the soil as sacrifice to the cycling Gods… Well, thanks, but no thanks :)
So, looks like it’s gonna be a nice bicycle summer :)
